Parent Information

Prior Notice to Parents:
The Morrison Academy System must provide you with prior notice each time it proposes or refuses to initiate or change the identification, evaluation, or educational placement of your child.
 
Parent Consent:
The Morrison Academy System must obtain your consent before conducting an evaluation or initial placement of your child in a program providing special education and related services.
 
Independent Educational Evaluation:
You have the right to an independent educational evaluation at your own expense, if you disagree with an evaluation obtained by Morrison. The results of the evaluation will be considered by Morrison in any decisions made with respect to the student.
 
Whenever an independent evaluation is obtained, the criteria under which the evaluation is obtained, including the location of the evaluation and the qualifications of the examiner, must be the same as the criteria used by the Morrison Academy System.
 
Surrogate Parent:
The Morrison Academy System shall ensure that an individual is identified to act as a surrogate for the parent(s) of a child when the parent(s) is not on island.
 
The surrogate parent may represent the child in all matters relating to the identification, evaluation, and educational placement of the child in the Morrison Academy System.
 
Access to Records:
Morrison Academy must permit you to inspect and review any educational records relating to your child, with respect to the identification, evaluation, and educational placement of your child.
 
If you believe that information in educational records collected, maintained, or used under this part is inaccurate or misleading, or violates the privacy or other rights of your child, you may request that the information be amended. Morrison must decide whether to amend the information in accordance with your request within a reasonable period of time . If Morrison decides to refuse to amend the information in accordance with the request, the school must inform you of the refusal in writing and also explain why. Parents may attach their rebuttal to the educational records.
